Westminster Through the Years

Glorifying the name and furthering the cause of our Lord Jesus Christ.

BEGINNINGS

In the summer of 1962, five families invited Thomas Bass to serve as evangelist for a mission church in northwest Cape Girardeau. The new congregation chose the name Westminster and in early 1963 Rev. Bass became the church’s first minister. After meeting in the manse for two years, the members constructed an education building as the first unit of their new facilities.

EXPANSION

During the pastorate of William McCutchen, Jr. in the 1970’s, the congregation held its first lay renewal, and expansion followed. The education building’s activity hall became the permanent sanctuary and a new fellowship hall was constructed. The congregation also opened a preschool to serve the community.
