A chapter of becca’s closet

In the early 2000’s, Rebecca Kirtman was a Florida teen who committed to helping other teens get dresses for their formal school events. After she was tragically killed in a car accident her parents continued her dream by creating Becca’s Closet Foundation. Semo Prom Mothers of Cape Presbyterian Churches is a chapter.

A joint mission of two churches

Shortly after Westminster yoked with First Presbyterian (1-1-2020), the two churches agreed to unite for a mission project called SEMO Prom Mothers. The project had previously been located in another church, but was discontinued. Now, Westminster’s Lower Level classrooms are filled with HUNDREDS of prom dresses – some new and some gently used – as well as accessories like jewelry, shoes, and even undergarments. Any Middle School or High School girl from Southeast Missouri or Southwest Illinois who is currently enrolled and planning to attend a school-sponsored dance may make an appointment to shop for a dress at the church. ALL THE DRESSES AND ACCESSORIES ARE FREE! Volunteers from both churches help the girls find the right size, then ooh and aah over how beautiful they look. The smiles and happy tears of girls and moms / grandmothers are priceless! Financial donations, as well as new or gently used dresses are gratefully accepted.
