In December 2019, Westminster Presbyterian and First Presbyterian
agreed to become yoked. This has nothing to do with eggs! Just like the yoke that goes over the necks of two oxen to keep them together while pulling a plow, the pastor is the yoke that connects two congregations. When Westminster was without a pastor and First Presbyterian needed to tighten their budget, the leadership from both churches decided this arrangement could be a win-win. Rev. Ellen Gurnon, who was serving full-time at First Presbyterian, reduced her hours to three-quarter time, and began serving Westminster at one-quarter time on January 1, 2020. The two congregations – just 2.6 miles apart – join together on occasion for special worship services, fellowship, Bible Study, and mission work.
